This Friday, May 27th, three bands from The Hague will perform in Bazart on the Showcase event of FPOZ: The Hague Music Export. One of these bands will be selected to play three of this year's Balkan Streets Festivals:

- 24 - 26 June: Vranje (Serbia)
- 29 - 30 June: Tesanj (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- 01 - 03 July: Vukovar (Croatia)

From April on bands from The Hague could register to have a shot at touring the festivals. Out of 45 registrations three bands were pre-selected, on the basis of their music, profile and motivation: Bombay Show Pig, Starcatcher and The Breakfast Club. The act that convinces the promoters of the festivals, with their liveshow and interaction with the audience, wins a tour through Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia. This tour is supported by FPOZ: The Hague Music Export. Platform Spartak will help the band getting necessary contacts and information needed for organizing their tour.

The showcase in Bazart starts at 20:00. One of the first acts supported by FPOZ: The Hague Music Export, John Dear Mowing Club, will also play during the night. More information via: www.bazart.nl.
Sennen in Vukovar

With two great concerts in Vukovar; Balkan Streets Festival signed off for this year. Even though the rain and thunderstorms seemed to be following around in the last weeks, we’ve experienced many memorable moments.

Over 30 young musicians participated in the workshops on promotion, scene building and touring; we’ve seen very talented local bands perform; reached out to different and diverse communities and worked on lasting, sustainable partnerships with local and regional organisations and future Streets events.

Frank Stevens, bass player of Sennen, introduced their final concert of the tour in the heavily damaged Radnicki Dom, a former cinema with spectacular acoustics, with the words ‘I don’t know when the last movie was shown here, but we’ll show one tonight’. With a big thunderstorm passing over Vukovar, and wind blowing through the big stone windowpanes, an unheimisch atmosphere was felt in the hall. Sennen’s instrumental show, supported by huge video projections on the brick wall behind them, was like a post-modern soundtrack perfect for this location.

This is one example out of many. Every Balkan Streets Festival event of this year brought us something new. We're currently uploading all the photo material to this website. Thank you Vranje, Gjilan, Skopje, Tešanj and Vukovar. See you all in 2011!
After having to move the event from Shutka to Skopje, because of the bad weather conditions and having a stage with no roof, we have now travelled north to the idyllic city of Tešanj in Bosnia. Tomorrow, on Friday July 2nd the Balkan Streets Festival will take place on top of Stari Grad; the magnificent castle that towers over the city and it's surroundings. Apart from the Dutch delegation, we welcome Belgian cross-over funk collective Sopha again, plus Bosnian bands Predgrupa (from Gračanica) and Proces. Finally DJ Tricksid will be playing music before and after the concerts! Entrance free, start at 18:00.
