Petrol are a psychedelic rock trio from Belgrade, Serbia. Formed in 2003 by Ana, Ilija and Milan, the band started as an improvisational piece without any strict instrument duties. The rehearsals and recordings were taking place in Ilija’s flat, and the initial lineup was soon expanded with two new members, Vladimir and Dragana. The band started playing live shows that soon became their trademark. They opened for bands like Obojeni Program and Disciplin a Kitschme. Also Petrol played three times at Exit Festival (Novi Sad) and the Art & Music Festival in Pula.

In 2004 Petrol self-released an EP, which was distributed to their fans, radio stations and music journalists. The single “Petrol Punks” ended up on the annual chart of Cross Radio, a network of Balkan radio stations. After a few personal changes the band finally settled in the original line up in the autumn of 2006, with Ana on bass synthesizer and combo organ, Ilija on guitar, vocals and synthesizers and Milan on drums .

In 2008 Petrol dids a number of gigs in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Slovenia and Croatia. Some of the most notable shows were in Split, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Pivka and Knin. They were the first band from Serbia to play in Knin after the 1991-95 war.

In february 2008 Petrol participated on the compilation “Zdravo Zdravo Zdravo” with some other groups from Belgrade. That compilation was a kind of overture for Petrol’s first LP “Nezgodno vreme opasni dani”, which was recorded in the Kramasonik studio in Zagreb, with Hrvoje Niksic as a producer. The album was published for “Odlican hrcak” in October 2008. The first single “Sve jedno je” spent some weeks on the top of the MTV Adria chart. The next single "Beirut" was voted as the best song in Serbia for 2008 on
the B92 radio, while “Zebra” topped the charts on few Serbian radio stations.

Petrol’s music is often characterized as a mixture of kraut rock, new wave and psychedelic rock. They are currently working on their second album.
